How to clear Cache in your browsers?  What is Cache? Why do we need to clear Cache? When a website is in the development phase, there are constant adjustments, from simple content changes, to styling adjustments and bug fixes.

The main reason we have to repeat these instructions is because we are a web developer.

Be careful when ticking all boxes, doing so will log you out of all sites and in some cases clear saved password data.

We're constantly making changes to clients websites. From front-end styling, to back-end functionality, everything will be affected by browser caching files. Now, we disable template caching within our sites files. But this does not stop browsers from caching the files. Which is why we will always tell you to 'Hard refresh or clear your browser cache to view the latest changes'. This is simply to ensure that you are viewing the very latest version of the website. Otherwise, those bugs that you have noticed in Internet Explorer could still be showing up for you!

Therefore we've got some simple shortcuts in how to clear your Cache in the following browsers:

Chrome

  1. Open the browser.
  2. At the top-right, click the 3-dots
  3. Click More tools > Clear browsing data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files', tick the boxes. 6. Be careful when ticking all boxes, doing so will log you out of all sites and in some cases clear saved password data.

Edge

  1. Open the browser.
  2. At the top-right, click the hamburger menu.
  3. Click settings > settings (again) > Privacy, search and services > Clear Browsing Data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files', tick the boxes. 6. Be careful when ticking all boxes, doing so will log you out of all sites and in some cases clear saved password data.

Firefox

  1. Open the browser.
  2. By the navigation bar on the left, click the clock icon.
  3. Select Clear Browsing Data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to 'Cookies and other site data' and 'cached images and files', tick the boxes. 6. Be careful when ticking all boxes, doing so will log you out of all sites and in some cases clear saved password data.

Opera

  1. Open the browser.
  2. At the top-right, click the hamburger menu.
  3. Click options > Privacy > Security.
  4. Scroll down to History.
  5. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  6. Next to 'Cookies' and 'Cache', tick the boxes. Be careful when ticking all boxes, doing so will log you out of all sites and in some cases clear saved password data.
  7. Click Clear data. Tip: like your keyboard shortcuts? Try Cmd + Shift + R on Mac, Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows to hard refresh the page

Safari

Clearing cache on Safari is simple. Go to History > Clear History and as before, select the time range to clear from. Be aware though, unlike with the above mentioned browsers, you cannot choose what to clear. Performing this step will clear all browsing data, cookies, and caches.
